Day 7

We needed our day of rest today! Well, maybe we really didn't but with the 101F forecast, we were not terribly enthused to go out and about. In addition, we depart tomorrow for Cornwall and Polhawn Fort so we do need to prepare for that. We now have the last details in place for our trip tomorrow. We have a taxi booked to take us to Paddington Station for our departing train at 10:05a. We travel to Plymouth by train, transfer by taxi to a small ferry, and then we have a taxi booked to pick us up after the short sail for the last leg of our journey from the ferry for the short ride to the Fort. 

We did a little hand washing in our sink and packed up. We called for delivery pizza for lunch. We read and watched TV. Dinner was an appetizer we got from the Borough Market yesterday, yum! Our clothes are laid out for morning and we will be off for our next adventure - The Wedding of our friends!

Day 18

Up and ready to go after a quick breakfast for John and coffee for both of us. As we approached the entrance there was Arthur, with is smiling face, to guide us in. That was a good thing as backing up is not something we have mastered. Actually, Arthur says there is very little control when going in reverse. What one does is put the nose into the bank then use the rudder in forward to move the back. We did perfect with his instructions! We say good-bye to the twisted trees that reach for the sky and their twisted roots that hang on for dear life as the water slowly works away at them. The canal teems with life from the smallest bug skimming across the water, the abundance of berries, the birds that serenade us every day, and the unseen rustling along the bank as we pass. Arthur called us a taxi and bid us farewell, we were on our way to Hook Train Station for the next adventure and he continues on in his seemingly idyllic existence there along the canal.   I wan...

We've Got a Ticket to Ride!

We got our train tickets for all the trips we need to our various destinations. I am relieved they came because it was no picnic getting these purchased! Our friend George suggested go directly to GWR, which worked  great, until it didn't.  It took some time to figure out exactly where we wanted to go, meaning the correct station names, then times, choosing a seat, etc. Finally, I was all set then the site refused my credit card. I tried several times to no avail. I called Capitol One to find out what the problem was and they said the first attempt was accepted and I should check with GWR why it said it wasn't. Next I called GWR and after talking to 2 people they finally realized I was in the US and said no out-of-country cards were accepted. Oh great! I said it took the charge and they said to call my credit card company for that.
