Day 8

We did have a big day for our travel day. After we were up and ready we took a taxi to Paddington Station. This station has at least 14 platforms, maybe more. We bought ourselves a Chicken, Bacon Club baguette for our lunch and a soda. We enjoyed that on the train. Just minutes from the station we were viewing the lovely, green countryside. Fields of hay, cows grazing, sheep wandering about, and lovely green fields were our views. The train seemed to be full and some people sat in seats that were not assigned to them and then others boarded and wanted the seat. Thankfully, that didn't happen to us. We had a good place to store our luggage and our reserved seat was empty when we got on. 10:03a to 1:06p was our trip, it did arrive a few minutes late but nothing significant. We felt quite welcome to arrive and several people helped with our luggage even when we didn't ask. One man was so friendly and said "Welcome to the home of the Mayflower" - obviously proud of his city and country. We got a taxi immediately on leaving the station that took us the few minutes to Cremyll Ferry. The drive was friendly and talkative and told us a bit about the history. The ferry isn't large, foot traffic only. I think it accommodated about 40-50 people. The ride across the water was pretty fast but I did take a few photos and a video, thinking about the Mayflower departure and the people onboard with their 66 day journey ahead of them to the "new world" that awaited them. Brave souls! So it was a fun but fast trip.

Our prearranged car from Coastline Taxis met us as we disembarked. We ended up being earlier than we thought so we opted to go to The Bay and have a drink and snack. Our taxi took us there and we arranged for him to come back and get us at 4p and transport us to Polhawn Fort. We enjoyed a couple of starters and a drink while we watched the people below enjoying the beach. Some were pretty hardy and were even swimming out in the chilly waters. Anyway, it all worked out perfectly. As we arrived we were overcome by the fantastic views. No wonder our friends wanted to get married here! Oh, there are a lot of steps everywhere but I am managing so far. We organized our room and went back up stairs to meet others. What a delightful and friendly group. I helped with some prep for the snacks for now and Cornish Pasties for later. Laila, Tawny's daughter is in charge and doing a fantastic job. I can't say enough about the lovely venue. The Cornish Pasties, our first, were superb! I helped with a little cleanup in the kitchen and then pressed our clothes for tomorrow. I suspect the one iron on site will be in high demand in the morning. We are settled into our room, #6 with an ocean view!We dropped into our lovely four-poster bed exhausted!
