Day 17
It is hard to believe
this is our last full day on the canal. We reluctantly left the lovely Barley
Mow location and headed toward Galleon Marine.
Again, being a weekend, the
canal is busy with kayakers, canoes, and other modes of transportation. The friendly
atmosphere will be missed. I think I got a good photo of the Thatched roofed
house we passed. We plan to spend the night by Galleon Marine as we need to
return the boat by 10a.
Thatched Roof
Our swan family was
not here this morning but we saw them a bit further down the canal. It is
bittersweet heading back. However, as we rounded the bend at Galleon Marine,
there was Arthur to smile and wave at us. This time, for the first time, we had
to use the mooring stakes. No problem though. We moored up and relaxed for a
bit then it was a trip back to the Waterwitch!
No, we don't have a
reservation so we are relegated to the outside, which was fine. The first table
we sat at was right by the yellow jacket trap, so we moved. They are still a
little bothersome but not too bad. They have lovely gardens in the outside area.
There are lots of tables. We were given a menu and told to find a table, note
the number, and then order from the bar. I was determined to try the Sunday
Roast again. I will admit the first time we had that the meat was impossibly
tough. I am SO glad we tried again. I ordered the slow roasted rib, John had
the pork….. One of my new favorites in
life is the goose fat potatoes. Oh my… SO good! I need to pull out that French
cookbook I have and learn how to cook a goose to be able to make those
potatoes!

There are so many
things I will miss about the canal, the flora and fauna is so relaxing and
tranquil. Friendly and interesting people all along the way, one woman saw me
in the window of the kitchen and motioned her hand like a cup for a drink, we
had a good laugh. The birds chirping in the silence of the peaceful evening,
the black and blue dragon flies, and our dear swan family. We have grown so
fond of the Teasel, we feel that it is "ours" for sure.
