Day 20

Today John and I visited the Royal Botanic Gardens Kew. The bus ride was fairly quick and very easy. It was about 30 minutes in the queue to get inside. I suggest buying tickets online before going then there is much shorter line. I think we would need a second day to visit all the lovely things here. We went to the Palm House, The Princess of Wales Conservatory, The Hive and walked along numerous garden areas. We did take the tram around the entire venue and saw several other things, but you could not see everything from the tram. There is an amazing Chihuly Exhibit going on right now. My disappointment was that we ran out of both time and energy to see more of the exhibit in the Shirley Sherwood Gallery. It is possible we will find time to go back to see that. Right after we depart for the US they are going to have Chihuly Nights and I bet that will be fantastic as well.

We ate a light lunch at the Botanical Restaurant with a view of the Palm House and lake area between the restaurant and Palm House. It was lovely. We both had the Hake with tomato salad and John had banana toffee ice cream for dessert, while I had peach melba. Everything was very fresh and delicious. While we were in there eating a cloud burst happened. I mean it really poured. Of course our poncho is safely back at the hotel! Several hours later when we stopped for some cake and tea there was a second such downpour. We managed to NOT get wet either time!

A brief stop at the gift shop and back to the bus stop. This time it is commute time and the buses are crammed full but we made it back just fine and happy to relax for the rest of the evening.
